Boston Based Hub Plumbing  Mechanical Launches an Innovative Apprentice Program

DORCHESTER, MA  September 24, 2005 -- Elevating what is most commonly referred to as one of the “trades” into a profession, Hub Plumbing and Mechanical, based in Boston, MA, has launched an innovative apprentice program, setting a new standard for the service industry. John Wood, the innovative CEO of Hub Plumbing and Mechanical, is committed to hiring the best of the best, and has initiated a comprehensive apprentice program to achieve this goal. Normally, to become a licensed Journeyman Plumber in Massachusetts, an apprentice works for a Master Plumber for three years, and completes 300 hours of class work to be eligible to take the exam for a journeyman plumber's license. At Hub that is only the beginning of the story…

Investing in the Future

The prerequisites necessary to become a Journeyman Plumber provide only part of the picture when examining what it is that it takes to become a proven member of the Hub team. Apprentices at Hub are handpicked, undergoing rigorous background checks. The purpose is to find sincere, motivated candidates who will grow and become great employees as they progress through the Hub apprentice program. Individuals interested in perpetuating the negative stereotype of plumbers need not apply. Apprentices at Hub are schooled in the importance of providing outstanding customer service and are expected to develop the skills necessary for delivering high customer satisfaction as part of their apprentice training. Opportunities to further their own experience and training are offered and include the use of self-guided educational materials, as well as ongoing seminars and workshops.

Apprentices are required to attend the weekly 6:30 AM Hub staff meeting where each staffer is required to voice constructive input. Apprentices also wear the crisp red and black Hub uniform, and follow the rule of donning protective booties whenever they enter a customer’s home or business. Apprentices gain good communication skills and learn the basics of marketing, salesmanship, and leadership as well as the technical skills needed in their new profession. In addition, Wood has initiated an incentive program for his Hub Plumbing and Mechanical employees, enabling them to be in charge of their own earning potential, while availing themselves of additional educational opportunities.

“At Hub Plumbing and Mechanical, we are investing in the future,” notes Wood, “ensuring that homeowners and businesses alike receive outstanding service from expertly trained professionals.”  For more information about Hub’s innovative apprentice program call 1-866-HUBPlumbing (482-7586) or visit www.HUBPlumbing.com.
