Plumbing Contractors Donate Fixtures, Faucets, Piping To Appalachia Needy

Downers Grove, Ill.; Dec. 21, 2004 – New, surplus plumbing fixtures, faucets and piping were donated to those in need in Appalachia through the ministry of St. Jude’s Church in Louisa, Ky., by members of the Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors of Northern Illinois Industry Fund in cooperation with UA Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 501.

On hand for loading a shower stall are (l-r): Frank Quattrocchi, Dan Stunkel and Tim Doerr, all of Local 501, and Georgiana Kipp, executive director of the Northern Illinois Industry Fund. Doing some of the heavy lifting is Dan Mathis, Martin Plumbing, Yorkville.

The donated goods come from surplus stocks that contractors accumulate because of changed and cancelled orders; none of it is used, explains Kipp.

The donations were collected at UA Plumbers Local 501, Aurora, which also provided surplus materials no longer needed for its education programs.

The mission of St. Jude’s has been serving Appalachia, led by Fr. Ralph Beiting for 54 years.

The Association represents 270 union contractors in DeKalb, DuPage, Kane and Kendall Counties as well as sustaining members who provide and maintain plumbing, heating and cooling systems for institutional, commercial, business and residential applications. It invests more than $3,000,000 annually for education and training of apprentices and journeymen.
